Hong Kong & Chiang Mai

Hong Kong and
Chiang Mai

We began our trip with a quick stop in Hong Kong before we went to Chiang Mai.  Hong Kong was crazy busy...especially at night!  The taxis could not even find their way around.  Chiang Mai was pretty cool and we checked out the night market and hotel pool before going to The Elephant Nature Park.

Elephant Nature Park

Elephant Nature Park

This is our visit to The Elephant Nature Park.  We had planned on riding some elephants on our trip and then herad from a friend that many elephants are injured and abused by the compenies that do this (thanks Sarah Rogers!).  Sarah suggested The Elephant Nature Park instead where elephants are rescued from street begging, logging and tourist riding and kept on a huge park instead.

Day Trip to White Temple and Long Neck Tribe

White Temple
Long Neck Tribe

We took a day trip by taxi to the White Temple and Long Neck Tribe.  The Temple was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat who is a Thai visual artist who also has a gallery next to the Temple.  The gallery had some awesome paintings and Steve bought a huge book of his work.

Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta is an Island at the very bottom of Thailand.  We are here for 5 days and not doing too much in the way of sightseeing.  We have rented a house on a hill close to the beach.  Ainsley donated her money here to The Lanta Animal Welfare.

Ho Chi Minh City

March 4th, 2014

We are on our way to Ho Chi Minh Cty today...gonna be a long one.  2 hour road trip with 2 ferries to Krabi airport.  Krabi to Bangkok, 3 hour layover, then Bangkok to Hi Chi Minh.  We will post a picture of how crabby everyone looks in 12 hours or so.

So Ho Chi Minh is as crazy as ever.  Check out the videos to show the street traffic.  Loud at night and just as busy as Hong Kong.  We are checking out the war tunnels today and then going to a performance of AO at the opera house.  Gonna do a lazy one tomorrow we think before we head to Cambodia.

We have added a couple of pics to the gallery.  AO was areally cool show.  We went and hung out with Marshalls friend Stewart and his wife Jennifer and her little one Chicky.  Were super great hosts and took us to a cool restaurant called Snap who were replaying the oscars.  Steve and Stewart got to both voice their hatred for U2.  Flew to Siem Reap today and the weather is great!  We finally found soem chicken feet which Elliot ate at the airport(see videos).  Tha met us at the airport who was our driver last time in Cambodia.  He will be taking us to Battambang to the Cambodian Childrens Trust as well as The Landmine Museum and School and Temple hopping.

Side story: Ainsley Peace is the only person who can manage to leave her phone in a city of 10 million people, and be lucky enaough to somehow get it back.  We accidentally overpayed the driver due to the money confusion so we think this may have helped a bit. Fare was 40,000 dong and we paid him 400,000

Ho Chi Minh City

Siem Reap, Cambodia

March 8th, 2014

We are now in Siem Reap.  Our guest house is so nice we are already looking into maybe staying here an extra couple days.  Had a lazy day by the pool and we are going to venture out into town tomorrow.  Going temple hopping on Monday.  It is Hamish`s birthday today and we surprised him with a cake the guest house owner managed to get us.

March 13th, 2014

Been a great time in Siem Reap.  Temple hopped a few days.  One day we made the 3 hour car ride to Battambang to visit The Cambodian Childrens Trust which is where Hamish donated his money.  A quick your there and it was back to Siem Reap to visit The Landmine Museum for Elliots donation.  We had to do both in one day so were glad to get out of the van for that one.  Weather and Hotel have been great....so much we stayed an extra day.  We are on our way to Kratie today by van which will take 8 hours.  Overnight in Kratie and then we are off to Laos which is where wifi might be a bit dodgy.  Videos have just finished uplaoding and we will put them online tonight which is in the morning at home.

4000 Islands, Laos

So we are now in Laos.  Wifi is a bit slow and we are trying to upload videos...might have to wait a bit.  What is there to do in Laos?  Not much which I think is the point.  We have found a bar near the beach with sheltered bungalows and hammocks.  We bike ride here in the morning, rest in the bungalow during the hot times and then ride back home.  Our rooms are floating right on the Mekong River.  Our porch actually has an opening to jump right in.  We might take a boat from the beach to try to see fresh water dolphins today at around 5pm once it cools off. We head to Pakse tomorrow for 3 days then onto Luang Prabang for another 3 days after that.  We have added some more Cambodia pics above as well.
