2015 Trip

Sunday March 22.

We made it to Hong Kong in one piece...no fights at all!

Arrived at 9pm and tried to sleep and get rid of jet lag.  Mid afternoon now and everyone is a bit tired.

Today we got up and went to the Big Buddha on the hill.  Took a taxi there and rode the glass bottomed gondola down.

We are just going to relax at the hotel to make sure we have a great start to tomorrow with our early morning flight to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Monday March 23rd

Got to Chiang Mai today and went to the tailor to get some pants and shirts made.  Was pretty cool....guy knows and loves his job!

Kids hit the pool and mom and dad slept off last of jetlag.  It is Tuesday morning now and we are off to The Elephant nature park.  I don't think there is wifi there so we will have the next update in 3 days or so.

Friday March 27th

We returned from the Elephant nature Park last night after 3 days there.  Was awesome to see our guide Sakchai again.  Our kids donated $1000 US funds from $5 planet to the Park.  The organizer of the park Lek was there to accept the donation.  We are on our way to Siem Reap today via Bangkok and should be there late afternoon.  Marshall (Lindsay's brother) will already be there waiting for us from Malaysia.

Sat March 28th

Had a half day adventure today as we went to Beng Mealea Temple which is one we have not seen before.  It is about an hour outside of Siem Reap.  Half days are perfect for this weather....just relaxing by the pool till dinner tonight at Haven which is a restaurant that trains and employs local youth to give them a better life.

Tues March 31st, 2015

Yesterday we visited a bunch of temples we have never seen before.  Was a hot one but all of them were amazing.  Stopped off at the Landmine Museum and Orphanage and mey Jill one of the Directors.  The kids donated some of their $5 Planet money to the Landmine while we were there.

Went on a huge bike ride today.  Set off around 8am and got back around 2pm.  Was a scorcher...only Lindsay and Elliot made it to the finish line...Steve, Ace and Hamish tapped on the last leg.  We visited small villages and really got to see how rural Cambodia is.  Hamish got nipped by a dog...barely a scratch but now he will be getting the series of rabies shots once we get to Phnom Penh.

Sun April 12, 2015

Sorry for the lack of updates.  We had limited wifi in both Phnom Penh and Kampot, Cambodia.  We are now in Kuala Lumpur and have no wifi!  We are doing this quick update from Marshall's apartment.

Quick recap....Phnom Penh was good but hot.  Did quick day outings and then hung at the hotel.  Kampot was one of the best places we have been.  The little hotel we stayed in had the bast rooms, staff, food and drinks!!

Kual Lumpur has had some great rain storms while we are here.  This stop is more about the food and we had the coolest banana leaf curry for dinner.  They put a banana leaf in front of you and begin covering it with all sorts of curry dishes, rice and other stuff.  We are on our way back to Hong Kong on Tuesday for one day and then back to calgary on Thursday.
